Renassaisance

This oil painting was one of those studio experiences where the painting felt like it was almost painting itself. I was pleased with the looseness of the piece with just enough detail to know what kind of flowers they were and that there was enough water in the vase for them. I especially enjoyed the challenge of painting the “stuff” inside the clear glass vase.

I had the pleasure of meeting the collector a few years after her purchase while I was dropping work off at a gallery. She recogonized my name as the gallery owner introduced us and shared the story of how she came to own the piece. She was there looking at larger pieces for a new home being built when she spied “Renassaisance” leaning against a wall. She told me that she knew immediately that she would be purchasing it. It sat in storage for the next year and her four year old daughter insisted that it hang in her bedroom. (Mom says she has excellent taste in art.). I have to agree.

It was such a gift to meet this collector and to hear the story of this paintings’s journey.
