About Sue Dion
Hello!
I am a painter inspired by the beauty and character found in everyday life. Flowers, vessels, fruit, and gathered objects often serve as the starting point for my work, not as subjects to be carefully documented, but as opportunities to explore color, movement, and expression.
My connection to flowers began early. Growing up in my family's wholesale florist business, I was surrounded by blooms, color, and constantly changing arrangements. Those experiences continue to influence the way I see the world and remain woven throughout my paintings today.
Working primarily in acrylic, I build my paintings through layers of color, expressive marks, shifting edges, and intuitive decisions. While recognizable forms often remain present, I am less interested in realism than in capturing the energy, rhythm, and feeling of a subject. The process allows familiar objects to become something more personal, inviting viewers to bring their own memories and experiences to the work.
I am fascinated by the common threads that connect all creative expression—the movement of dance, the structure of music, the cadence of writing—and I often look for ways to translate those qualities into paint.
My hope is that each painting offers a moment to slow down and look more closely. Whether through a floral arrangement, a collection of objects on a table, or an abstract suggestion of place, I strive to create work that feels welcoming, human, and connected to the quiet beauty of everyday life.
Based in Uxbridge, Massachusetts, my work is exhibited throughout New England and is held in private collections across the United States and internationally.
